'A Good Old Xmas Bust' Christmas Greeting Card

'A Good Old Xmas Bust' Christmas Greeting Card, c.1905, Great Britain. The Underpinnings Museum Collection

Date:  c.1905

Origin: Great Britain

Brand: Unknown

A humorous greeting card that utilises a number of corset-inspired puns. The exterior shows a cut out corset shape in embossed pale pink silk, of a style typically worn in the 1900s with decorative bows and suspenders. The card is tied through the centre with a red silk string bow. The exterior message states ‘With Sincerest Wishes For A Good Old Xmas Bust’.

The interior of the greeting card features a ‘To’ and ‘From’ section to the left for the sender to detail their recipient’s and own names, with the opposing side detailing a pun filled poem, encased in floral scrolling borders:

‘Christmas once more comes in due
CORSET comes round
I hope that to-day in
GOOD FORM you’ll be found
WAIST-ing no time, and by
Good luck attended
And your happines ne’er for
One moment SUSPENDED’
