Date: c. 1920s
Origin: USA
Fabric: Silk Crepe, Cotton Bobbinet, Machine Lace
Brand: Unknown
A step-in teddy made in a cream silk crepe, with a bust and leg line of machine lace trim, and a cotton bobbinet lining. A flourish of ribbonwork trims the centre bust, and small pieces of lace appliqué embellish either side of the garment legs. Shoulder straps are made of silk ribbon and the garment closes at the centre back with a row of metal hooks and eyes. Although there are no garment labels, the garment fabrication suggests that this piece was a mass-manufactured style. The garment cut is loose and unfitted, with the bifurcated leg cut suggesting the piece is from the latter half of the 1920s.
