Cutaway Blue Silk & White Lace Bridal Trousseau Teddy

Cutaway Blue Silk & White Lace Bridal Trousseau Teddy, c. 1940s, Great Britain. The Underpinnings Museum. Photography by Tigz Rice.

Date: c. 1940s

Origin: Great Britain

Fabric: Weighted silk satin, machine lace

Brand: Custom made

A step-in teddy, created by a professional dressmaker for her own bridal trousseau. It is painstakingly hand sewn, and showcases her fine craftsmanship. White machine made lace is carefully appliquéd to a blue, weighted silk satin, with a central satin panel forming a heart motif. The teddy has a cutaway silhouette, leaving the waistline largely exposed. It fastens with patterned ribbon ties and an enamelled metal zip at the rear.
