Favourite Things: Kaaren Bedi of Layneau Collection

Another installment in our blog series ‘Favourite Things’, where we ask lingerie industry professionals to pick a favourite object from our collection. Today’s selection comes from Kaaren Bedi of Layneau collection. Layneau Collection was founded in 2012 with the mission to create truly luxurious nightwear, using traditional couture craftsmanship techniques. The brand’s ‘Amilee’ gown is part of the museum’s collection.

Kaaren’s pick is the Homemade Parachute Silk & Tulle Slip, Bra & Tap Pant Set.

These are so fantastic to see in the collection. The very first pieces of lingerie I made were from a silk parachute! It is quite difficult to work with owning to not only the very lightweight of the fabric but the way the grain is distorted by the original purpose. I love that the chemise incorporates the original seaming (the diagonal seam across the front.)

Pieces like these are so important to preserve. They demonstrate to the enduring creativity and durability of women in the face of privation and strife.
