'Bears' High Neck Monowire Bra By La Fille d'O

'Bears' High Neck Monowire Bra By La Fille d'O, c. 2013, Belgium. The Underpinnings Museum. Photography by Tigz Rice.

Date: c. 2013

Origin: Belgium

Fabric: Nylon elastane blend

Brand: La Fille d’O

A bra in constrasting beige and black nylon-elastane blend mesh, with an unusual high neck silhouette and a monowire structure. The bra fastens at the rear with adjustable elastic stapping and enamelled metal hooks. It is unusual to see monowires used in contemporary underwear design; although these structures were commonplace in mid-century bras, they fell out of favour due to the relative difficulty of fitting and stitching these styles.

Belgian avant-garde lingerie brand La Fille d’O (translating from French as ‘The Daughter Of O’) was founded in 2003 by Murielle Sherre. The brand produces its designs from its own factory in Kemmel, Belgium, and is a proponent of the ‘Slow Fashion’ movement. Its two boutiques can be found in Antwerp and Ghent.
