Black Lace Corset Cover

Black Lace Corset Cover, c. 1910s. The Underpinnings Museum. Photography by Tigz Rice

Date:  c. 1910s

Origin: Unknown

Fabric: Venise lace

Brand: Unknown

A corset cover or camisole style created from a layer of Venise lace with a narrow lace trim and hook and eyelet tape fastening at the back. The back hook and eye fastening is slightly offset from the centre line. The original black silk shoulder straps had shattered and have been replaced with contemporary ribbon. The relatively loose cut of this corset cover suggests it is from the transitional period between the fitted 1910s and loose 1920s fashions.
