Date: c. 1930s

Origin: Great Britain

Fabric: Cotton tulle, silk georgette

These tap pants have a base of fine cotton bobbinet tulle and are profusely embellished with symmetrical silk georgette appliqué, satin stitch embroidery and cutwork. They fasten with shell buttons on both side seams of the garment, with hand stitched button holes. The garment pattern does not appear to vary from front and back. It is cut with a panelled gusset, with seam joins concealed by silk appliqué. The entire garment is hand sewn and represents many hours of skilled labour.
