Date: c. 1960s

Origin: USA

Fabric: Nylon

Brand: Spice n Nice

A nylon sling-style bra, that offered a subtle lift and exposed the nipple underneath clothing to achieve the fashionable pointed bust silhouette of the mid 20th century. This version is particularly structured, and incorporates both underwires and vertical steel boning at the centre gore and bottom cups to maintain the shape. The bottom half of the cups and the underwire channel are embellished with pleated nylon tulle ruffles, and a machine embroidered floral motif trims the centre gore. The wings of the bra are trimmed with plush elastic, and feature a machine made lace overlay.

The overbust sling structure is created from plush elastic strapping and satin ribbon. The ribbon shoulder straps are adjustable with plastic components, and have a little additional fit flexibility through small pieces of elastic strapping at the centre back. The bra closes at the centre back with elastic strapping leading to an enamelled metal hook and eyelet fastening.

The fibre content of this bra incorporates spandex, which was first invented in 1958. When paired with the shape and style of the bra, this suggests it was created in the early 1960s.
