Homemade Sheer Nylon & Lace Knickers, c. 1960s, USA. The Underpinnings Museum. Photography by Tigz Rice

Date: c. 1960s

Origin: USA

Fabric: Nylon tulle, nylon lace

Brand: Home made

A pair of knickers in a sheer peach nylon mesh, with a central panel of black lace overlay. The lace has been embellished with a scattering of small multi-toned diamanté gems. The garment cut has a high waist and low leg, with an inserted diamond gusset. Although the fabric is not elasticated, it contains enough give to allow the garment to be pulled onto the body. These knickers were home made on a domestic sewing machine.
