Pale Pink Nylon & Lace Bra With Ribbon Slot Trim By Jacques Fath

Pale Pink Nylon & Lace Bra With Ribbon Slot Trim By Jacques Fath, c. 1950s, France. The Underpinnings Museum. Photography by Tigz Rice.

Date: c. 1950s

Origin: France

Fabric: Nylon, machine lace

Brand: Jacques Fath

A bra in fine machine lace and woven nylon. It is trimmed with a delicate ribbon slot lace trim along the neckline, threaded with a pale pink satin ribbon. The satin ribbon shoulder straps are not adjustable, and the bra fastens with a short length of buttonhole elastic and two shell buttons at the centre back. The interior of the bra reveals its unusual patterning, with the top cup of the bra integrated into the cradle panel.

The Parisian couture house of Jacques Fath was opened in 1937, quickly rising to prominence and critical acclaim. Much of his inspiration is said to have come from Fath’s wife and muse Geneviève. Upon Fath’s death in 1954, she oversaw the house until its final closure in 1957.
