A loose fitting corset cover created from luxurious fabrics. The bustline of the garment is crafted from alternative panels of machine lace and pintucked silk georgette, and the waistline from a weighted silk satin. Each garment panel is joined together with a finely appliquéd band of insertion lace. The neckline is trimmed with a delicate lace, which conceals a stitched channel threaded with ribbon to cinch in the bustline. The shoulder straps are formed from silk satin ribbon. The waistline is cinched with a channel of elastic, although this has now perished and lost its stretch. A small silk ribbonwork rosette embellishes the right side of the bust, with a bow of silk satin ribbon on the opposite side.
Chamberlin-Johnson-DuBose Co. was a leading department store in Atlanta, operating from 1866 to 1931. The business filed for bankruptcy in 1930, closing down permanently the following year. A second corset cover from the same store can be viewed in our collection here.
