Embroidered & Monogrammed Cream Silk Stockings

Embroidered & Monogrammed Cream Silk Stockings

Date: c. 1910s

Origin: United States

Fabric: Silk

Brand: Unknown

These stockings have been finely knitted from silk yarn, embellished with knitted patterns and satin stitch hand embroidery. The cuff is knitted with contrast red threads and embroidered with an ‘MC’ monogram. The stockings are well worn and cared for, with numerous hand darned repairs, particularly around the heels. The expense of silk stockings meant that people took care to repair and maintain the garments rather than to discard or replace them.
