Point D'Esprit Tulle Corselet By Charmis

Point D'Esprit Tulle Corselet By Charmis, c. 1955, France. The Underpinnings Museum. Photography by Tigz Rice

Date: c. 1955

Origin: France

Fabric: Cotton bobbinet, point d’esprit tulle, stretch nylon mesh

Brand: Charmis

A corselet crafted from a mix of cotton bobbinet tulle and sheer nylon mesh, with a decorative point d’esprit tulle overlay. It is structured with spiral steel bones and underwires, and fastens at the centre back with hooks and eyes. There are four elasticated suspender straps; these are not adjustable, and the rubber tongues of the grips have degraded and are largely missing. This corselet has an unusual cut, as none of the boning structure extends below the waistline.

This design has been attributed to the brand Charmis. It is missing brand labels, but an identical style was advertised by the brand in 1955.
