A jumpsuit in traditional foundationwear fabrics of nylon lycra and mesh, from the Autumn/Winter 2010 collection ‘Future Noir‘. The design plays with the concepts of nudity, eroticism and symmetry. The garment panels alternate between sheer mesh and peach opaque nylon, giving an appearance of nudity against pale skin. The sheer panelling is notably placed over the bustline, intended to reveal the wearer’s nipples. The garment fastens with a brass zip through the centre back seam, with another zip placed through the crotch seam.
Sheer mesh ruffles are inserted into the seams assymetrically across the body, with the overlock stitching being half concealed within the garment and half left visible. The effect isn’t immediately noticeable, but gives a jarring effect.
Rachel Freire is a clothing and specialist leatherwear designer based in London, with a background in Fine Art and a degree in Design for Performance from Central St Martins. Her eponymous fashion label was launched at London Fashion Week 2009.
