A waist cincher with detachable suspender straps in a black stretch nylon, with a central panel of polyester satin and French chantilly leavers lace. Four suspender straps are created from a ruffled effect elastic strapping and are adjustable with enamelled metal components. Oversized satin bows trim the front panel seams. A decorative edged elastic trims the waist and hip lines. The cincher closes with hooks and eyes at the centre back.
The garment is structured with steel bones, with the bone channels lined on the interior with velvet ribbon. This is an unusual detail to see in contemporary garments, and is certainly a nod to the brand’s use of velvet trimming in its mid-century creations.
The Cadolle design house was founded by Herminie Cadolle in 1878, originally a shop that specialised in made-to-measure undergarments. Herminie is often credited with designing the first modern bra in 1889, although this is often contested. The brand continues to this day, and is now headed by Poupie Cadolle, the fifth generation of the family to run the eponymous brand.
