Date: c. 2008
Origin: Made in China, designed in the UK
Fabric: Stretch nylon mesh, polyester satin, nylon lace
Brand: Kiss Me Deadly
A lightly structured basque made of stretch nylon mesh, nylon lace and polyester satin. This design was inspired by the famous first licensed lingerie collection by Christian Dior (first produced in 1957), and uses the same lattice velvet ribbon embellishment. This was reportedly challenging for Kiss Me Deadly’s factory to produce, so the product range was discontinued after a single production run.
The basque is structured with underwired cups and polymer bones at the seams. Eyelash lace skirts the bottom hem and trims the neckline of the cups. The waist is lightly cinched with three horizontal rows of plush elastic. The 6 suspender straps are detachable.
Kiss Me Deadly was founded in London in 2006, by Catherine Clavering, an ex-Psychologist who created the brand after struggling to find the perfect suspender belt. The brand’s designs are vintage inspired, incorporating foundationwear design details from the 1940s and 1950s. The accompanying photoshoots often reference Film Noir and Femme Fatale imagery. Kiss Me Deadly has won numerous awards, including the ‘Favourite British Designer’ at the 2012 UK Lingerie Awards.
